Garden Waste
Garden Waste Management - Totnes Gardening
At Totnes Gardening, I believe in responsible and sustainable garden practices, and that includes how I manage the waste generated from my work. My aim is to minimise my environmental impact while keeping your garden tidy and beautiful.
My Approach to Garden Waste
I take a thoughtful approach to garden waste, prioritising eco-friendly methods where possible:
On-Site Composting (My Preference):
For suitable organic materials (e.g., grass clippings, soft plant trimmings, leaves), my preferred method is on-site composting. If you have an existing compost bin or heap, or are looking to start one, I am happy to contribute suitable waste directly to your compost system as the job progresses. This enriches your soil, reduces waste removal needs, and benefits your garden naturally.
Benefit to You: Creates free, nutrient-rich soil improver for your garden, reduces reliance on external waste disposal, and aligns with sustainable gardening principles.
Small Amount of Waste Removal:
For small amounts of green waste that cannot be composted on-site, or for projects where you prefer not to have a compost heap, I will remove this waste as part of my service. This typically includes modest volumes generated during regular maintenance tasks like hedge trimming, weeding, or pruning.
My Disposal Method: All green waste I remove is transported to a licensed local recycling or composting facility. I ensure it is processed responsibly, keeping it out of landfill.
Larger Projects & Bulk Waste:
For larger garden clearance projects, significant tree work, or extensive landscaping that generates a substantial volume of waste, separate arrangements will be discussed and agreed upon during the quotation phase. This may involve:
Client-Provided Skip: I can fill a skip that you arrange.
Bulk Bag Service: Utilising large, reusable bags for specific types of waste.
Specialised Waste Collection: Arranging for a larger, dedicated green waste collection, which may be charged separately based on volume.
Helping Me Manage Waste Sustainably
You can help me maintain an eco-friendly approach by:
Considering a Compost Solution: If you don't have one already, consider installing a compost bin or heap. I can advise on suitable options.
Discussing Your Preferences: Let me know during my initial consultation if you have specific preferences for waste management, such as composting on-site or retaining certain materials for your own use (e.g., wood chips for mulch).
Being Clear on Expectations: Ensure that the scope of waste removal is clear in your service quotation.
At Totnes Gardening, I'm dedicated to leaving your garden looking immaculate while also caring for our shared environment.
