Garden Waste Management - Totnes Gardening

At Totnes Gardening, I believe in responsible and sustainable garden practices, and that includes how I manage the waste generated from my work. My aim is to minimise my environmental impact while keeping your garden tidy and beautiful.

Garden Waste Management: Sustainable and Compliant Disposal

At Totnes Gardening, my commitment is to responsible, sustainable, and compliant practices. This includes how I manage the waste generated from my work. My aim is always to minimise environmental impact while leaving your garden immaculate.

Crucially, I operate under the legal compliance of KEVIN IAN HARE LIMITED, which is an Environment Agency Registered Waste Carrier, Broker, or Dealer (Lower Tier Registration No. CBDL612576). This gives you complete peace of mind that all waste is handled legally and responsibly.

My Sustainable Approach to Garden Waste

I take a thoughtful, eco-friendly approach, prioritising methods that enrich your garden and keep materials out of landfill.

1. On-Site Composting (My Green Preference)

For suitable organic materials (e.g., grass clippings, soft trimmings, leaves), my preferred method is on-site composting.

  • How it Works: If you have an existing compost bin or heap, or are planning to start one, I am happy to contribute suitable waste directly as the job progresses.

  • Benefit to You: This creates free, nutrient-rich soil improver for your garden, reduces reliance on external disposal, and is the most sustainable option available.

2. Responsible Waste Removal (Small Volumes)

For small amounts of green waste that cannot be composted on-site, or when you prefer a completely clear site, I will remove this waste as part of my service (standard during regular maintenance like hedging, weeding, and pruning).

  • My Guarantee: As a legally registered waste carrier, I transport all removed green waste to a licensed local recycling or commercial composting facility. I ensure it is processed responsibly and diverted from landfill.

3. Larger Projects & Bulk Waste

For significant garden clearance, extensive tree work, or major landscaping that generates a substantial volume of waste, separate arrangements are discussed and agreed upon during the quotation phase. Options include:

  • Client-Provided Skip: I can efficiently fill a skip that you arrange.

  • Bulk Bag Service: Utilising large, reusable bags for specific types of waste.

  • Specialised Collection: Arranging a dedicated, larger green waste collection, which will be itemised and charged separately based on volume.

Partnering for Sustainability

You can help me maintain an eco-friendly approach by:

  • Considering Compost: If you don't have one, consider installing a compost solution. I can advise on suitable bins or heaps.

  • Discussing Preferences: Let me know during my initial consultation if you have specific wishes, such as on-site composting or retaining materials like wood chips for mulch.

  • Clear Expectations: Ensure the scope of waste removal is clearly outlined in your service quotation.

At Totnes Gardening, I am dedicated to leaving your garden immaculate while caring for our shared environment—with the added confidence that your garden waste is handled legally by an Environment Agency registered professional.
